Welcome back!
Today, you will:
- review math vocabulary ("coordinate plane")
- use X and Y variables in Scratch to move a sprite (character) around on a coordinate plane
Next, watch this quick refresher on how to use a coordinate grid!
stop!
Follow these steps before watching the last video:
Now, let's get Scratch in the mix!
Now, let's get Scratch in the mix!
- Open a new Scratch project and name it "coordinate grid 1 - [name]" (be sure to save it in your 2015-2016 folder!).
- Once you've opened your Scratch project, watch the final video to see how Scratch uses the coordinate grid.
Now,
here's what you need to do:
- In your Scratch project, use the "Go To X ( ) Y ( )" button (you can find it in the "motion menu" and the "wait 1 secs" button (you can find it in the "control" menu) to move the cat sprite into each of the four corners.
- Start with the top right, then the top left, then bottom left, and finally bottom right. You will need to use each block more than once!
Hint: drag the sprite where you want him to move and watch as the X and Y coordinate values change in the bottom right hand corner.
When you are done, record the coordinates you used for each corner in the exit ticket below. Remember to use the (x, y) format when recording your coordinates.
